Your Trusted Neighbor in Columbia | Carolina Comfort
Since 1992, we’ve been serving families and businesses in the Midlands with an unwavering commitment to honest advice, fair pricing, and top-notch HVAC expertise. From our earliest days in a tiny Newberry office to our current 16,000 sq. ft. facility, we’ve stayed true to one guiding principle: treat every customer like a neighbor because that’s exactly who you are.
Our Story: From a One-Room Office to a 16,000 sq. ft. Facility
Back in 1992, our founder Rich Mitchell set out with one goal: provide honest, dependable HVAC service to friends and neighbors in the Midlands. Starting in Newberry, he spent his days driving to clients’ homes, learning every brand and model he could, and most importantly earning the trust of local families.
Fast-forward to today, and we’ve grown into a 16,000 sq. ft. facility off Bush River Road in Columbia, serving thousands of homeowners across the region. But even as we’ve expanded, we’ve held tight to the same down-to-earth approach we’ve had since day one. We still treat every new customer like an old friend, because that’s how Rich built the company and it’s how we’ll continue to grow.
“We’re blessed to be here and it’s thanks to the people of this community having faith and trust in us for the last 32 years.”
— Cole Mitchell, General Manager
Our Core Values: Honesty, Integrity & Quality
From day one, Rich instilled three simple values into everything we do: Honesty, Integrity, and Quality.
They might sound old-fashioned, but after three decades in business, we can tell you these principles never go out of style.
Honesty
Honesty
We believe in giving you straightforward answers, whether it’s an easy fix or a more involved repair. If we make a mistake, we own it and make it right no excuses.
Integrity
Integrity
Our loyalty is to you, not the manufacturers. We advocate for valid warranty claims on your behalf and recommend only what’s truly in your best interest. It’s the same advice we’d give our own family.
Quality
Quality
From in-house training programs to rigorous safety checks, we don’t cut corners. Every technician goes through real-world scenarios before ever stepping into your home, so you know the job will be done correctly the first time.
“If we can’t be honest, act with integrity, and deliver good quality service, then why should anyone do business with us?”
— Rich Mitchell, Founder
These values guide every decision we make, from the equipment we recommend to how we answer your phone calls. If it’s not right for your home, your health, and your budget, we won’t do it… period.
We’re a Service Company First
Not a Sales Company
Carolina Comfort is more than just an HVAC company we’re a locally owned, family-operated business that has been serving the Midlands for over three decades. While many competitors have been acquired by national chains, we’ve remained independent because this is our home. When you call us, you’re speaking with a team that lives and works in the same community as you no out-of-state call centers, no corporate red tape, just real people dedicated to helping our neighbors.
Our commitment to the Midlands goes beyond HVAC services. We actively support local events, serve on community boards, and invest in the region that has supported us since 1992. Staying locally owned allows us to make decisions that prioritize people over profits, and we’ll never change that. As General Manager Cole Mitchell puts it, “We’re only here because the people of this community have allowed us to be here since 1992. We don’t take that trust for granted.”
At Carolina Comfort, we’re a service company first, not a sales company. Our goal isn’t to push a new system on you every time you call it’s to find the solution that makes the most sense for your home and budget. If a repair is the best option, that’s what we’ll recommend. And if a replacement is truly the smarter long-term choice, we’ll show you why, without pressure or gimmicks. Our technicians aren’t here to meet sales quotas; they’re here to fix problems. We also work for you, not the manufacturer, advocating for valid warranty claims to ensure you get the most from your investment.
By putting service before sales and investing in the community, we build relationships that last for years. As Service Manager Randy Mitchell says, “If a simple fix can keep you comfortable longer, that’s what we’ll do.” Because at the end of the day, we’re not just running a business we’re taking care of our neighbors, and that’s what matters most.

In-House Training:
Building Expert Technicians
At Carolina Comfort, we believe the best technicians aren’t made in a classroom, they’re built through hands-on experience with real-world scenarios. That’s why we’ve designed specialized training boards that replicate everyday HVAC challenges, from faulty igniters to refrigerant leaks. These custom-built trainers allow our technicians to practice diagnosing and solving actual system failures in a controlled environment, ensuring they’re fully prepared before they ever step foot in a customer’s home.
Unlike companies that rely solely on manuals or quick certifications, we take a one-on-one coaching approach, dedicating time each morning to personalized training sessions. This ensures every technician develops the sharp diagnostic skills and confidence needed to handle everything from older gas furnaces to cutting-edge high-efficiency heat pumps. As General Manager Cole Mitchell puts it, “We set aside an hour almost every morning with a different technician, so they learn to spot and fix real issues quickly and accurately.”
When a Carolina Comfort truck pulls into your driveway, you’re not just getting a technician you’re getting a highly trained expert who knows how to solve your problem the first time around.
